Usability Services
Usermatics work with IT and website developers making their
products, services and websites simpler and easier to use.
We specialise in bringing user input into the IT development process and designing and testing throughout to ensure usability.
We help IT organisations and projects make strategic improvements to their IT development process to include best practice in user requirements modelling, user interaction design and usability evaluation.
We carefully investigate any usability issues reported by our clients and work with them to form a usability project to address these issues in the most pragmatic way.
Product / Service Concept Design
The concept defines the purpose of the product or service, it's suitability and
usability for the envisaged user and market. Products conceived with a technology or business focus, and little consideration of user and usability issues fail to meet user's needs, no matter how attractive the user interface.
We can work with marketing, market research and
design teams to identify and evaluate new product and service concepts from the user perspective. We use
product market analysis techniques, desk research, concept prototypes, user
interviews, surveys and focus groups.
User Requirements Specification
Many IT and Website development projects proceed with ill-specified user requirements because
obtaining access to users and identifying user requirements is difficult. This is a root cause of usability problems in the final product or service.
Usermatics can help establish a formal basis for agreeing user interface design assumptions;
we can gather information about users and define an iterative usability test programme
to validate and refine the user requirements and user interaction design.
User Interaction Design
Usermatics can undertake or provide guidance on all aspects of the user
interface design; we follow and improve upon user interface design best practice, guidelines and standards;
We use user analysis, user personas and user task analysis to scope the design;
we use storyboards and prototypes to explore design alternatives;
we arrange designer and user walkthroughs to iteratively refine the designs.
Website Design
We focus on the user when we design websites to ensure the website satisfies the users' goals and provides a positive experience. We identify the information users want and
structure the website to meet users expectations. We apply a website image appropriate to your business, product or service and intended market.
We make your website easy to understand and navigate and ensure it is not cluttered with irrelevant or gratuituous graphics and animations.
Usability Inspection
Usermatics can conduct a rapid Usability Inspection of a product prototype or fully developed product or website.
A usability inspection is undertaken in a few days by a experienced interaction designer able to rapidly
pinpoint the usability design problems to focus on.
We quickly disgnose usability problems, identify priority changes and provide redesign recommendations which
can substantially improve the usability and customer experience with your product or website.
User Testing
Usermatics can help you bring user feedback into your development process to inform essential usability design decisions;
user tests, with a sample of customers or users, are custom designed to evaluate specific usability issues with products, product prototypes or websites.
We are specialists in selecting appropriate samples of
users, running user tests, interpreting user responses and
identifying usability design improvements. Our findings can be rapidly relayed back to your development team.
User Pilot Trials
Newly developed web-based services and IT products should be evaluated by real users in a realistic situation to ensure they serve user's needs in different contexts.
Usermatics can plan and co-ordinate pilot trials in user and customer organisations, reporting
back to developers, detailed observations, measurements and interpretations of
users' responses. Feedback from real users in realistic situations can help developers understand how to improve usability of new or even well established products and services.
